The Micro-Suction Ear Wax Removal for Essex, London and Hertfordshire video shows you how micro-suction is utilised for ear wax removal at all DigiClear Hearing centres. Micro-suction is one of the more popular methods of ear wax removal and typically takes 5-10 minutes per ear.

So, my name is Allan Wright, and I am speaking to you from DigiClear, Bishops Stortford. This is at 10 Florence Walk. And I’m about to show you the process that we go through for performing micro-suction, which is the safest way of removing earwax from an ear canal. So Lynn here, our receptionist, is offering her ear for examination today. And the first thing we’ll do when a person comes in and feels they’ve got wax in their ear, we have a look in their ear canal. And we use a thing called a video otoscope.

We will take this and we put into the client’s ear canal. The client can then see the picture of their own ear canal and the amount of wax that’s present. What we then do is to perform micro-suction and show the client afterwards, exactly how clear their ear is and that their tympanic membrane is all intact. If there are any medical issues, we can then refer the client on to GP or ENT. We fully explain the process, because everyone’s concerned about how fragile their ear canal is and their ear drum is.

Cannula and probe
Cannula and probe

So what we tend to explain to people is first of all, this is a cannula. And what happens with a cannula, we put this probe, and this is the micro part, into that cannula and feed it through onto the wax. First of all, we will only deal with the first two-thirds of your ear canal. The final third, by your ear drum, is too fragile. If there is a problem down there we would normally advise you to see ENT. We can’t jab the wall of your ear canal. Your ear drum is where my finger is. So it’s as safe a process as we can do to remove wax from your ear canal.

So the method would be, we’ve now put that cannula into your ear canal, and with the probe, we can micro-suction that wax. Now to enable me to see that ear canal nice and clear, we also use a pair of these magnifying spectacles. It’s a nice, bright light and a magnifier and that enables me to see very clearly into your ear canal. So then we’d perform the process. This again is our micro-suction probe. We open up the client’s ear canal and with good vision of the ear canal, we can then feed the probe in and our machine will remove that wax by micro-suction.
