Types of Hearing Aid Cleaning &
Care Tips Hearing Aids
1. Clean Your Hearing Aids Daily
- Gently wipe your hearing aids each night with a soft, dry cloth or a specialist cleaning wipe (available to purchase at all our clinics)
- Use the small brush or cleaning tool provided to remove any wax or debris from the microphone and sound outlet
- Avoid water or household cleaning products, as these can damage sensitive components.
2. Keep Them Dry
- Moisture is one of the leading causes of hearing aid issues. We stock drying kits you can use at home to help remove everyday moisture.
- Remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming or applying hair products like gels or sprays.
3. Store Safely
- When not in use, store your hearing aids in their protective case in a cool dry place.
- Keep them away from pets and small children – they can be tempting to chew or play with!
4. Check Wax Guards & Filters
- Your hearing aids have wax guards or filters; Change regularly – on average every 8 weeks, but this can vary depending on your wax production.
- We are always happy to show you how to replace these during your next visit, or feel free to call us for guidance. Our team are always happy to help you.
5. Manage Batteries or charging
- Battery-powered: Replaceable batteries typically last 3-10 days, depending on use.
- You will usually get a low battery warning before they run out, giving you time to change them.
- Rechargeable: Charge fully overnight using the recommended charger
6. Book Routine Maintenance
- Many of our clients enjoy regular maintenance as part of their Digiclear aftercare package. This covers their aftercare which will include a 6–month and annual check-up. We will send reminders when they are due.
- Not on a package? We still recommend regular appointments to keep your aids performing at their best.
- Whether part of a package or not, our maintenance appointments include a professional cleaning performance check, and expert advice to help prevent issues before they start.
Top Tip from Our Team:
- Make cleaning part of your bedtime routine. Just a few minutes a day can make all the difference – and we have all the products and services to make it easy.
- For hearing aids with replaceable batteries – change both at the same time, even if one still has life left. This keeps things simple, avoids mismatched battery life and is a practical approach that makes life easier with minimal waste.
