Earwax Removal & Ear Health Assessment

Your hearing is something that you can easily take for granted. Good ear health does so much for you, such as building a relationship with your family, helps you to enjoy yourself in social situations and even know when someone is at the front door. They do so much for us, yet we only think of our ears when we experience a problem.

At DigiClear, we understand the importance of good hearing and know how vital it is in your day-to-day life. As a result, we’ve developed our Ear Health Assessment to help us help you with your ear health

Our Ear Health Assessment is available for just £100

Ear Health Questionnaire

We first start by asking you to fill out a medical questionnaire so that we know as much about your ear health as possible. This means that we’ll be aware of any issues you might currently face with your hearing

Ear Canal Inspection

With this information, we then carry out an in-depth inspection using the latest video or microscope otoscopes to get the best view of inside your ear

Ear Wax Removal

If there is earwax in your ear canal, we will safely remove it using microsuction

Middle Ear Pressure Tests

We’ll also carry out an ear pressure test to help check your ear drum and middle ear, this is to see if they’re healthy and doing their job properly

Hearing Screening

We then use the hearing screening test to check for any signs of hearing loss. We can then refer you to a medical professional if this is the case and discuss hearing technology if needed.

For Microsuction services outside of Essex, you can search a national database of independent practitioners from this link.

FAQ

How do I know if earwax is causing me a problem?

If you’re unsure if you’ve got wax, please check with a practice nurse.

Does ear microsuction hurt?

In most cases, microsuction is a comfortable and quick procedure. The process can be a little noisy at times, though, and if the wax is particularly hard, there may be some discomfort. This is why we recommend using drops several days before your appointment. Regardless, our practitioners will always take it at your pace.

How often should I have microsuction?

This varies from person-to-person, so it’s entirely up to you. Some people have treatments quite regularly whereas others only require microsuction every few years. Regardless, we’ll send you annual reminds after your first treatment. If you need to see us sooner, you can always book a consultation by calling or through our booking form.

What happens if I need a specialist referral?

For complex cases, we can refer you to Dr Mihaela Carmaciu in Chelmsford, a practising GP with a Diploma in Laryngology and Otology from the royal college of surgeons. You can also see your GP for a private referral to our local ENT consultants at the Oaks Hospital in Colchester.

Can earwax affect my hearing aid?

It is possible for earwax to get inside the filter of the device and can affect its performance. It’s best to replace your filters regularly, which can be purchased from us and easily fitted yourself. If you are unsure, please ask us for advice.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have microsuction?

Most people can have microsuction, but there are exceptions. We advise children under the age of 16 to avoid microsuction. In extreme cases, we may decide that a referral to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) consultant, with their medical knowledge and experience, is in your best interest. We also advise that anyone taking certain blood thinning medications, has a perforation of the eardrum, or has any presence of certain infections should avoid microsuction. If you’re unsure about whether you are included in any of these circumstances, feel free to get in touch with us.
