We hope you’ve all been enjoying soaking up the sun during the warmer weather we’ve had recently. However, it’s important to remember the effect that it could have on your hearing aids. The delicate and sensitive components of hearing aids are vulnerable to extreme environmental conditions and temperatures. As the weather warms up, here are a few tips for keeping these hi-tech devices in top condition during the summer months:

Tip 1 – Beware of moisture

Moisture from humidity or splashes around the pool can cause irreparable damage if it gets inside your devices. Protect your investment by wearing a hat outside, avoiding splash zones, and storing your devices in a waterproof container. Don’t forget to put them in your drying container every night.

Tip 2 – Don’t leave in direct sunlight

If you’re lucky enough to have a dip in the sea or a pool this summer, don’t leave your devices lying out on a chair or table. Most hearing aid casings are plastic and can start to melt if left in strong sunlight for too long. Instead, tuck them away inside your case in a cool and shaded place.

Tip 3 – Avoid excessive heat

Leaving your devices in hot conditions, such as the glove compartment of your car, can cause major damage to the casing, processing chip, and batteries. Always find a cooler storage option. Ideally, this would be indoors.

Tip 4 – Avoid chemicals

Sunscreen, bug spray, hair spray, and perfume can all clog and ruin your aids. If you think any chemicals have made contact, use your cleaning kit to wipe them and clear the vents and other openings.
